After qualifying I spent 5 years in the RAMC (army doctor looking after troops and their families). Although I didn't see any active service I witnessed the results of troops returning from war zones. I also took part in all military exercises.
I worked as a locum GP before joining Elmwood Medical Centre (initially at 3 The Square) in August 1992.
I am the nominated partner in the practice doing minor surgery (lumps and bumps) and also contraceptive implants and removals.
I otherwise am a generalist clinically, and, along with the other partners in the practice deal with issues relating to the functioning of the practice and partnership.
In my spare time I enjoy cycling and trekking.

Along side my role as a full time GP I am the GP practice prescribing lead and representative on the Elmwood Patient Participation Group. I also attend local community meetings.
I do occasional weekend GP shifts for Derbyshire Health United out of hours service and with the other partners in the practice provide GP cover for Fenton Ward at the Cavendish Hospital here in Buxton.
I don't have a lot of spare time for hobbies (!) but enjoy 'Warhammer' gaming, cooking/barbecuing and spending family time with my two sons and their various sporting and performing arts activities.

After qualifying as a doctor in 1992 I worked in hospitals in the Midlands in A&E, paediatrics, psychiatry and obstetrics and gynaecology before specialising in general practice. I have been a partner at Elmwood since January 1998.
I work part time (3 days a week) and am particularly interested in caring for patients of all ages with many types of chronic illnesses such as heart and chest diseases, rheumatology (joint conditions) and memory problems. I carry out audits to help our practice meet patient needs and to optimise health improvements.
I also regularly work at the weekends for Derbyshire Health United out of hours service.
I have 3 teenage children, one of which is at university. In my free time I enjoy mountain biking and hill walking and recently ran the Manchester 10km and Colour Run in aid of Cancer UK.
I am a Nurse Practitioner with a background in minor injuries. I am able to refer patients to other disciplines in secondary care (hospital consultants and investigations) as well as prescribing medication. My hobbies include running, being out and about with my dog, spending time at home with my family and gardening.
I am the nurse manager and have worked locally in General Practice for over 25 years.
I am a Nurse Practitioner but also advise on chronic disease management. I enjoy the variety of work each day especially women’s health and diabetes.
Outside of work I enjoy swimming, cycling and holidays.
I have been a practice nurse at Elmwood since 2010 and prior to this worked at Derby City Hospital specialising in gynaecology. I enjoy a varied role advising on chronic disease management and annual reviews, baby immunisation, women’s health and much more.
I am the mother of two teenage girls and enjoy losing myself in a good book. I also love animals, holidays and socialising.
I have been a Practice Nurse for 15 years. I currently work one day per week at Elmwood, and the rest of the week at a GP surgery in New Mills.
I enjoy all aspects of my job and try to provide a relaxed and supportive approach to all of my patients.
Although I am new to the area I have been a nurse since 1982 and a Practice Nurse for the last 14 years.
I enjoy the variety of the work and am especially interested in childhood immunisations, travel health and chronic disease management.
I am married with two grown up daughters and enjoy reading, yoga, swimming, travel and getting out and about in the Peak District.
The Healthcare Assistant supports the practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as blood pressure measurement, wound checks, suture removal and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one.
My role as a Health Care Assistant is very varied and includes doing ECGs, taking blood samples (in an emergency), blood pressure monitoring, wound care, spirometry, NHS health checks, new patient interviews and ear syringing.
I am City & Guilds NVQ qualified in Health and Social Care, level 3 and work closely under the supervision of the GPs and nurse team.
Outside of work I enjoy travelling, theatre, music and socialising with my family and many friends.
The practice manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.
The midwife specialises in the care of women before, during and immediately after pregnancy. Messages for her can be left with the reception staff.
District nurses provide nursing care both within the surgery and to patients at home. They are based at the Cavendish Hospital in Buxton and can be contacted on 01298 212827.
A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.

Dementia Support Worker offers help and support to people with dementia and their carers. They can also undertake dementia screening.
