Flu Clinics 2020/2021

Elmwood Medical Centre is now able to offer appointments for flu vaccines to eligible patients.

In a typical winter, flu is one of the biggest health concerns for many older and vulnerable people. With the additional threat of coronavirus this year, the public are being advised to take extra care to avoid both of these diseases. The government hopes for as many people as possible to receive the flu jab to reduce the risk of caregivers and healthcare workers coming under immense pressure.

The NHS flu programme in England offers the flu vaccine to patients over the age of 65, patients with certain health conditions or with a weakened immune system, pregnant women and carers. In addition anyone who lives with a patient who was advised to shield because of Covid will be eligible as well as those working as carers. Children aged 2-3 years on 31st August 2020 will be invited for a flu vaccine at the Practice whilst school years reception to year 7 will be offered the vaccine at school.

The Government also hopes to be able to extend the flu vaccine programme to include patients aged 50-64 from November however at the present time this group of patients are not eligible for a free flu vaccine so please do not contact the surgery. We will contact you when we have more information.

We will be holding our Flu Clinics over the next few months. Due to the current COVID-19 situation they will operate in a slightly different way to previous years to protect our patients and staff. Patients must book an appointment for a flu vaccine and attend as close to their allocated time as possible. Patients will be required to wear a face covering whilst in the Practice and observe social distancing, remaining 2 metres from others whilst in the building.
